His selection in the side came after some strong performances with both bat and ball for Central Northern in the U14 Country Championships in Albury from January 7-10.
It’s an impressive achievement for the 13-year-old, as the team represents the entire central north and north coast area.
He was selected to Country Sixers Northern last year, but said the field of players at the Albury Country Championships were very strong this year.
“I’m pretty excited. I didn’t know if I was going to make it this year,” he said.
“This year there were some pretty good players, a few of them I’d never met and they were pretty good so I didn’t know if I was going to make it this year.”
“But I just bowled pretty well, with the bat I got some runs so you just perform down there, you make the team.”
Montgomery says he’s mainly been a bowler this year but he’s also a keen batsman.
“I just do what I get told to do.”

Montgomery has made contributions in every game so far with both bat and ball.
He finished with 10 not out in his opening game and backed it up with 17 the next day in their first win of the competition.

Montgomery enjoyed his best game in the Sixers’ preliminary final, their last match of the tournament.
He took one wicket and starred in the field, taking two catches as well as getting a run out and scored 39 not out with the bat in the win.
