This was the first season Moree and District Netball Association took over the running of the indoor netball competition from Moree PCYC and, according to MDNA grants and sponsorship officer Dimity Hook, it was a great success.
“We had some really positive feedback,” she said.
“People said it was a good competition and well run and most of the teams who played are keen to do it again.”
A total of eight teams competed in the Monday night mixed competition, while six teams participated in the women’s Thursday night competition in the season which ran throughout terms three and four of the school year (from the end of July to the end of November).
“It was really good; we did well to get the teams we got this year considering it was the first time Moree Netball was running it,” Hook said.
Ahead of the finals, each competition was split into A and B grades to even the competition playing field and give all teams more game time.
“It gave everyone an extra game, so they all got their money’s worth,” Hook said.

Balls Up ended up finishing top of the table in the mixed comp, however competition favourites Top Camp proved too good in the A-grade grand final, held on Monday, November 26, and defeated Balls Up 37-28.
Augusta Ag defeated Loose Screws 30-16 to win the mixed B-grade grand final.
Meanwhile Diamonds finished on top of the ladder in the ladies competition, but they were upset by runners-up Blue Birds who claimed victory 32-16 in the grand final on Thursday, November 29.
“Diamonds have been nearly undefeated all season, they were very strong and basically dominated the competition,” Hook said.
Surprise Package took out the ladies B-grade grand final against Grader Girls 28-17.
Hook said there was some great competition in both the mixed and ladies competitions this season.
“They were both really strong competitions and even though some teams didn’t win a lot, most of the scores were reasonably close,” she said.
Hook said the indoor netball competition is always a lot of fun and is a great social sport to play to meet new people and catch up with friends.
“It’s the only time I leave the farm, otherwise I wouldn’t come to town,” she said.
“It’s nice for people in our area and newcomers to find something they can go to once a week and be social. It’s also a great way to meet new people.
“It’s not just about netball.”
The next indoor netball season will begin in the second week of February and will run throughout terms one and two until June.
The mixed competition is played on Monday nights, while the ladies is each Thursday, at Moree PCYC.
Hook hopes to see even more teams register next year.
