Twelve juniors have qualified for the Australian Physie and Dance Association (ADPA) Junior National Championships following some great results at the Junior Zone Championships, held in Tamworth on October 20 and 21.
The five and six-year-old teams placed first and second, while the seven and eight-year-old team placed third at zone.
Annabel Dufty (5), Ally Duncan (5), Savannah Ware (6), Kylah Munro (6), Imogen Brazel (6), Pearl Humphries (6), Keirah Munro (8), Haylie Turner (9), Sophie Lai (10), Ruby Humphries (11), Ellah Briggs (12) and Chelsea Bourke (12) have all qualified for the Junior National Championships, to be held at the Darling Harbour Theatre at ICC Sydney on Saturday, December 1.
A number of these juniors also qualified for nationals last year.
Meanwhile, Elka Devney and Karlee Briggs have qualified for the ADPA Senior National Championships, to be held at the Darling Harbour Theatre at ICC Sydney on Sunday, December 2.
This will be Elka’s first time competing at nationals, while Karlee is no stranger to the national stage, having qualified for the senior final for the past seven consecutive years.
Last year Karlee finished sixth in Australia.
The Ladies National Championships were held in Sydney on Saturday, November 3.
Stevie Munro made it through to the national final for the second year in a row, while Club 2400 head teacher Pam Burley came out of retirement and gained fourth place in the Masters division.
All the other ladies who competed at nationals made the semi-final in their respective divisions.
The ADPA National Championships are a showcase of the top 12-14 performers in the country, across all age groups, competing for the title of National Champion, and in the Elite Senior and Elite Ladies sections, overall Grand Champion.
A fusion of the fundamentals of physie and the art of dance, competitors perform contemporary, lyrical and jazz routines and the judging panel rank them on their ability to execute the syllabus correctly, using strength, flexibility, musicality and technique.
On Saturday, the Club 2400 Moree Physie and Dance held their annual club competition and presentation day.
“With 90 members in the club it was a huge, beautiful day of dance,” teacher Jenny Mulligan said.
Haylie Turner took out this year’s major award, winning Overall Club Champion.
She was also named Junior Club Champion, while Elka Devney was awarded Senior Club Champion and Catherine Davis took out Ladies Club Champion.
Dusty Smith was named the Club Marching Champion.
Teachers Pam and Jenny would like to thank all the girls and their families for their hard work and support in 2018.
