Just under 70 competitors from Moree, Armidale, Tamworth, Scone, Gunnedah, and Goondiwindi competed to determine the fittest of the fit during the throwdown event, held at GTK CrossFit in Moree on Saturday, November 10.
Seventeen teams of four (two males, two females) completed four workouts on the day, in two different divisions – RX for the elite athletes and scaled for the beginners and intermediates.
The workouts varied in time and number of repetitions and ranged from exercises involving weights such as dead lifts and body weight such as burpees, to gymnastics-type exercises such as pull-ups and toe-to-bars.
Moree’s GTK CrossFit team were the ultimate winners in the RX division for the second year running.
Average Joes from Tamworth were runners-up in the RX division, followed by and Snake Bites who came third.

Meanwhile Moree team Chalk Dirty To Me were runners-up in the scaled division, behind winners The Block Team from Goondiwindi and ahead of third-placed Snatches and Jerks.
Six Moree teams participated in the throwdown.
GTK CrossFit owner Heidi Dell said the throwdown is a way to bring crossfitters from around the region together and provide them with an opportunity to challenge themselves and each other in a competitive and friendly environment.
“There’s not a lot of competitions regionally for us, so it’s good to have at least one competition a year in our town, which brings everyone together as a community,” she said.
“It’s a good way to experience other towns’ crossfit gyms and create a bigger community than what we have just here.”
Dell thanked all those who supported the day, making it a great success.
“Without our sponsors, the day wouldn’t go ahead, so it’s much appreciated,” she said.
This is the second annual GTK CrossFit Throwdown and Dell hopes it will be a permanent fixture on the crossfit calendar.
The event’s sponsors included Wendy and Greg Woods, Any Occasion Catering, South Moree Butchery, A Tasty Surprise, Gwydir Glass, Moree Amcal Pharmacy, FitAid, Broadbent, Kate and Joe Robinson and the Dell family.
