Seven Moree Public School students represent North West at state athletics carnival

Seven Moree Public School students had the opportunity to compete against some of the best young athletes in the state at the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) state athletics carnival last week.

Darcy Brazel, Charlie Grant, Mana and Chaz Noble, Jeremy Blatchford, Mitch Beddoes and Harriet Beattie represented Moree Public School and the North West at the NSW PSSA Primary Athletics Championships, held at Sydney Olympic Park on Wednesday, October 31 and Thursday, November 1.

Darcy competed in the 200 metre, high jump and long jump events, recording personal bests in all three and placing 31st in the 200m, 16th in high jump and 21st in long jump.

Charlie ran in the 100m event, placing 32nd, while Mitch placed 33rd in the 100m race and also came 33rd in the long jump for his first time at state.

Mana placed 22nd in the junior boys discus, while Harriet was 33rd in the junior girls discus event.

Finally, Mitch, Chaz, Mana and Jeremy competed in the junior boys relay, recording a personal best.

While there were no placings among the Moree students, Moree Public School athletics coach Karla Black said they all did really well and loved the experience.

“It is a wonderful achievement for a country school in the North West to be able to attend a state carnival in Sydney,” she said.

“Our school is very proud of each individual performance at the carnival.”
