The musical comedy follows the tale of main character Heather who is having difficulty coming to terms with her sexuality.
2minus1 Productions’ Stevie Drenkhahn said the musical explores some topical, and perhaps controversial, issues in a light-hearted, humorous way.
As co-writers of the production Stevie, Jacqualyn Drenkhahn and William Penfold worked cohesively to produce a musical spectacular fit for Broadway.
“It’s been really natural in working with Will and Jacqualyn to write the script. We’d talk about it, go away and write, then come together and re-arrange bits and pieces,” she said.
Stevie and Jacqualyn have written all of the music featured in Lemon, Lime and Scissors.
“If you put it next to any Broadway song it stands alone by itself; it wouldn’t look out of place,” she said.
Featuring five main characters, Stevie said Heather was based on a couple of her friends who have struggled themselves.
“The process has been cathartic for me, the main character is a school teacher, the whole thing happens within a school which is my reality,” she said.
People involved in the show have been amazed at the quality two Moree-born girls have produced.
Stevie said, with the help of Nathan Davis, the sets are ready and look absolutely amazing and realistic.
Lemon, Lime and Scissors will show at the Moree and District Services Club on November 2 and 3 from 7pm.
However, tickets are selling fast for the two shows, featuring some magnificent pre-show entertainment.
“Some ex-students of mine will performing a piece, that goes for about 10 minutes, called ‘Before the Water Came’.
“It’s a really funny, but also serious. I’ve worked with them on that piece for about six months,” Stevie said.
Lyndon Hankey will perform a taster stand-up comedy routine from his show which will showcase next year.
“I’ve been working with Lyndon since the beginning of the year putting a show together with him. It’s a piece of Aboriginal theatre.”
Tickets are available online at 123tix.com.au or in store at Sylvia’s Fabrics in Moree. “I’ll be doing a giveaway for NOWFM listeners in the next couple of weeks,” Stevie hinted.
