Collier opened the bowling for a modified 40-over competition after being selected in the Central North Women’s U18s Cricket Squad.
Held in Raymond Terrace, the first day of the championships got washed out, so on Wednesday selectors requested a game.
“Everyone got a bowl and a bat for the selectors, who had the job of choosing a squad for the state challenge.
“It was a great experience opening the bowling and I think I went okay considering I was a bit nervous. I didn’t concede too many runs or bowl too many wides,” she said.
Collier was selected for the Central North side after trying out in May affiliating her to the Cricket NSW Academy Program.
I hope to play a lot more cricket this summer.
- Danielle Collier.
She participated in an intensive Cricket NSW coaching program through winter which involved travelling to Tamworth every second weekend.
“The winter program involved a whole lot of drills and feedback. We did batting, bowling and majority fielding to get used to it.”
Selectors are yet to announce the state challenge squad who will be in the running for nationals, however Collier is already keen to try out for north west Secondary cricket trials on November 20.
The dominate bowler has been interested in cricket since the young age of eight when she first learnt how to bowl.
“I’ve been playing a bit of cricket here and there but this is my first competitive experience. I hope to play a lot more cricket this summer,” she said.
The north west secondary cricket trials will be held in Tamworth and open to all keen cricketers in the public school system.
“I’ve always liked team sports and I’ve met so many people through cricket this year and made some life long friends.”
