Four Moree Secondary College students were able to gain practical skills needed to work in retail after participating in a program at Woolworths.
The partnership between Careers Network, Woolworths and Moree Secondary College allowed the girls to step out of their comfort zones one day a week for six weeks.
Maddison Dahlstrom, Chelsea Kelly, Louise Leeson and Fiona Cleal were exposed to all aspects of store employee activities through orientation, interaction and mentoring with department team members.
Assistant store manager Kylie Heffernan said the six-week program was extremely successful.
“The girls certainly improved on their communication skills whilst engaging with customers. They were also given the opportunity to work unsupervised to use their problem solving skills.
“It was great to see our department team leaders helping and encouraging the girls,” she said.
Through practical experience students can make more informed decisions when considering future subject choices and career path options.
The program concluded on Thursday with a certificate of participation presentation.
