It was decided at council meeting last Thursday that councilors would attempt to reactivate the main street and fill empty shop fronts with budding businesses or ideas.

Amid growing concerns at the number of shops closing in town, council will provide vacant premises to start-ups or people with a business plan for a discounted rental price.
“It will be about fostering new businesses, and not businesses that are already thriving,” councilor Sue Price said.
The premises will only be available to residents of the Moree Plains Shire and for a short period of time, as long as applicants meet the requirements.
“It will be our prerogative to refuse applications and knock them back,” cr Price said.
Mayor Katrina Humphries picked up the thread and said she wanted to be mindful of “charlatans.”
“I have a huge issue with businesses that come into town in the lead-up to Christmas to only make a profit and then leave Moree straight afterwards,” she said.
Council decided it would review the policy in six months time.
