Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall visited Moree on Friday to make the announcement.
“We always pushed for more people to get out and active, and it’s important that we have the adequate facilities. Enhancing the facility at PCYC will ensure that it can be used for many different sports in Moree for many years to come,” he said.

Roughly $164,000 will be handed over to the not-for-profit organisation to mend the facility on the corner of Boston and Jones streets. The premises currently hosts games such as netball, indoor cricket, basketball and futsal.
“This upgrade neatly complements the $2 million handed to PCYC earlier in the year,” Mr Marshall said.
“It is a great complex for sports and recreation for people of all ages.”
Councillor Kerry Kassels was also on hand at the time of the funding announcement. She noted she had made use of the facility on many separate occasions.
“Back in my young days I played with the nursing team at hospital. We started off in C-Grade and somehow managed to get all the way up to A-Grade,” she laughed.
“The facility has been utilised for various sports and it keeps young people healthy, well and fit. At the end of the day, the facility is the prime premises for sports in Moree.”
Since the facility was built in the 1980s, it has started to show its wear and tear. With the new money, the roof will be touched up and the air conditioning upgraded.
“After a day of heavy rain we actually close the facility because of the leaks in the roof,” Moree PCYC Tayla Macey said.
“There will be puddles of water on the basketball courts and this can make the floor slipper and dangerous.”
Ms Macey said repair work would also be done to the original brick structure. She thanked Mr Marshall for the funding.
“Because the PCYC is a not-for-profit we do rely on funding so we can upgrade our facilities and keep sport popular with the young kids.”
