The plan was easy enough on paper but an early piece of luck and focus was needed, coaches Beau Coles and Matt Harrison said.
"[The plan was to] go with the wind. Get those few extra goals there and make it easier at the end," Coles said.
With the toss won, it was up to the boys on the field to do the rest and they didn't disappoint.
The Saints kicked six goals in the opening term to Moree's one to open up a 34-point buffer at the first break.
The next part was to "work hard to keep it [the lead]" and "never underestimate Moree", Harrison said.
Harrison said the Saints did both of those things.
No goals were scored in the second quarter before Inverell snagged another three in the third and kept Moree scoreless.
The final term was a closer affair as Moree managed to kick another two majors but the Saints were able to kick four to close out the 13.21 (99) to 3.2 (20) victory.
"Sensational. Well deserved by the boys," Harrison said.
"They've had a good season and they came together at the right time of the season for a cracker of a game."
The team was different from last year's side which made it all the more special for all involved.
"There's definitely a few new faces," Harrison said.
"The core's probably similar to last year but we've had a couple big ins.
"The Beattie boys, the Sue-Fongs. There's probably seven or eight new faces which is sensational.
"I was pretty nervous at the end of last year to see how we'd start this year numbers-wise and to get the new faces was massive."
Moree coach Eric Faulkner was “very proud” by the determination shown by the Suns.
“They played it out really well,” Faulkner said.
“It’s always tough when you have 16 on 22.
“They put a few goals on us in that first quarter which was always going to be tough catching up.
“They did exactly what we planned to do.
“But the boys, it was good for them to fight it out like they did to the very last kick.”
Faulkner said the side can go on to bigger and better things in 2019.
“I’m very proud of what they did and the commitment and when they get a few more boys next year, hopefully we’ll be here again and go home with the cup,” he said.
“Ninety per cent of these boys will stay in this age group and I think there’s five or six of them that are at the real younger end of the age group as well.
“Keep this group together and they’ll have lots of premierships to come.”
Inverell’s Jordan Sue-Fong was named best on ground for his tireless display rucking for the Saints.
The ruckman was also one of seven Inverell goal-scorers.
Lachlan Martin sat at the top of that list with five snags while Riley Sandral and Jackson Blake kicked two apiece.
Cody Mcgillivray, Xavier Gobbert and Patrick O'Brien also kicked goals.
For Moree, William Caccianiga, Daniel Brown and John Montgomery kicked goals.
