“The team came off the field all smiles. They took the loss on the chin pretty well,” coach Mark McGrady said.
The Boars faced off against Inverell Hawks on Sunday, on the back of an upset to Glen Innes Magpies. The game was to be their last shot at grand finals.
Though wet weather and a muddy field jeopardised their performance on game day.
“The ground was cut up from the teams that played Aussie Rules the day before. When we got there, we had a downpour of rain 10 minutes before kick off,” McGrady said.
“The girls lost at least three tags in the mud. There was very poor ball handling on both sides.
“In my opinion, you can’t play league tag in wet weather.”
With the 18-4 loss behind the team, McGrady said the girls could be proud of their overall progress throughout the season.
“The girls built their relationships and camaraderie with each other.
“I want to say a big thank you to them for putting up with me.”
McGrady has not confirmed whether he will return to coach the league-tag team next year, but said it would be a chance for other candidates to take up the mantle.
“I would like to see one of the girls from the league-tag team take on the coaching role next year. It would be good for them.”
