Under 6s, under 8s, under 10s and under 12s teams from throughout the Central North region competed in the carnival, held at Ron Harborne Oval, with players coming from Moree, Narrabri, Tamworth, Armidale, Gunnedah, Quirindi, Inverell, Barraba, Walcha, Scone, and Coonabarabran.
Although numbers were down slightly on previous years due to the wet weather, Moree Junior Rugby Club president Chris Lamey said it was a great day, made even better by the rainfall over Saturday night.
“I think the wet weather set it off really sweet,” he said.
“The kids love playing in the conditions. It was a nice soft field from the rain – it would have been the softest field they’ve played on all year.
“We want to thank Moree Plains Shire Council for letting us play in the wet.”

Moree fielded five teams on the day – two under 8s and under 10s and one under 12s team, which also lent players to other teams – as well as a number of under 6s players who participated in skills and drills.
Each team played about three games on the day as part of the round robin competition.
No scores were recorded, however Lamey said each of the Moree teams played well.
“They all held their own,” he said.
“There were no massive wins, it was just a good competition.”
With many families staying overnight in Moree, Lamey said the town would certainly have benefitted from the carnival. Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre even offered families discounted entry, which Lamey said was taken up by a lot of people.
Lamey would like to thank the committee and families for their support in the smooth running of the day, as well as Craig Sciban who led the barbecue, Stuart Tighe who donated six staff to work on the barbecue and the current and former Moree Bulls players and committee, including president Paul King, for refereeing.
The Moree carnival was the second last carnival for the junior competition. The final carnival will be held in Armidale this Sunday.
Moree Junior Rugby Union Club will be having a tent at the next Bulls home game and invite all families to come along.
