The promotion of re-use and recycle is the aim of National Op Shop Week, which runs from August 27 to September 2.

“So much ends up in landfill and we’re a good filter to prevent that,” Moree Salvation Army store manager Rhiannan Dempster said.

“I’m always telling people we accept everything, even rags; we can always find a home for something.

“The biggest message is that there’s always an option before you go to the dump.”

To promote the re-use and recycle message, the Salvation Army store is running a two-week-long dress the mannequin competition, during which shoppers could win a $50 voucher to any local business.

“All they have to do is pick an outfit in store, give us their contact information and we dress the mannequin and it goes to an anonymous poll on Moree Thumbs Up Thumbs Down,” Ms Dempster said.

“We’ve got everything from shoes to handbags and jewellery – outfits can be as simple or as extravagant as people like.”

The competition is free to enter and promises to be a whole lot of fun.

The competition is now open and will run until September 7, after which photos of entries will be anonymously posted onto the Moree Thumbs Up Thumbs Down Facebook page for voting. The entry with the most votes will win the $50 voucher.

Moree Salvation Army store is open from 9.30am to 2pm Monday to Friday. For this Saturday only, it will also be open from 9.30am until 12pm to allow children the opportunity to take part in the competition.
