“The guys have been training really hard for eight weeks now and given me 100 per cent,” Cheetham said.
“They have left no stone unturned: they’ve been studying the skills, making sure they’re defensively sound and working on a few simple combinations that I’ve found work well in amateur boxing.”

Cheetham only stepped back into the coaching shoes in February this year after a four yearlong hiatus due to family commitments. Though, he’s been quick to get the ball rolling again.
Middleweight Brent Munro, welterweight Cody Moore and Bantamweight boxer Connor Williams will each make their debut on September 1 at Nambucca Heads.
“It’s going to be a big tournament, a bid pro-am show. There will be three professional bouts and 14 amateur fights,” Cheetham said.
Heavyweight Shaquille Pitt, flyweight Zack Crouch, Jack Ross and Cooper Williams will also make their debut at Gunnedah on October 6.
“The boxers are understandably nervous, but at the same time they’re very excited about representing Moree,” Cheetham said.
Although the upstarts have yet to even step foot in the competition ring, Cheetham has already set a fight night in Moree.
“We’re calling it, Boxing is back in the Big M. We’re really building towards getting competitive boxing back on track in the town,” Cheetham said.
The fight night will happen on October 20 at Moree Services Club.
“The corporate tables have already been sold,” Cheetham said on the glowing support from Moree.
“Even though our area is going through drought at the moment, the corporate support is unbelievable.”
Tickets will go on sale at the local Services Club in early October, for $50 a pop.
“That will get you general admission and four hours worth of fights,” Cheetham said.
With Moree set to make a grand return to the competitive side of boxing, Cheetham said now is the time to sign up to classes.
Competitive boxing classes are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6pm for a cost of $2.
Junior boxing happens on Monday and Wednesday at 4.30pm, and mixed boxing for fitness is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm with a $5 price tag tacked onto the classes.
Many boxing greats have passed through the training hall at the Moree Showgrounds, along the likes of former Olympic boxer Cameron Hammond, Australian title-holder Tony Hall and NSW Champion Ashley Duncan.
