Sponsored by the National Australia Bank, and supported by Lions Club of Moree Inc., the Lions Youth of the Year competition is designed to encourage, foster and develop leadership in conjunction with other citizenship qualities in young people aged 15 to 19 about to enter the fields of employment or higher education.
The national program, which has been running since 1964, encourages students interested in leadership to to take an active and constructive role in the community.
Moree Lions Club president Vicky Lyons said the program provides young people the opportunity to develop self-confidence, gain experience in public speaking and interviews, and is a great addition to any curriculum vitae (CV).
“It is a unique experience for young people between the ages of 15 and 19,” she said.
“There are not many opportunities like this for free. Participants have the opportunity to develop their self-confidence through public speaking and receive feedback.”
Last year’s Lions Youth of the Year was Patrick Mongtomery who was the only entrant in the competition.
Ms Lyons said the club would love to see a few more participants step up and get involved this year.
The 2018 Lions Youth of the Year dinner will be held at Moree Town and Country Club on Thursday, October 18.
