“The support from the community for this campaign was definitely there,” Woolworths Moree assistant store manager Kylie Heffernan said.
Woolworths stores across Australia launched the drought-relief campaign on Saturday, in a bid to donate profits from its fresh produce sales to Rural Aid.

Although the final figure has yet to be tallied, Ms Heffernan said around $2,200 had been raised from smaller fundraisers on the day.
“Local groups like the PCYC, scouts and Royal Fire Brigade came down to help with the barbecue and raffle.”
Teams from the Hike for Homeless Amazing Race also stopped by the local supermarket: as part of their challenge, participants had to raise $10 before they could progress to the next location in the race.
Ms Heffernan also said the local supermarket managed to fill an entire warehouse pumpkin bin with donated groceries.
“We still have some hampers at the front of the store, and customers have already filled up one basket that was only put out yesterday.”
Ms Heffernan observed that the generous donations would go a long way to help drought-affected towns.
“It’s not just the farmers who are affected by drought. You can already notice the difficulty some business owners are going through during this hard time.”
