Olivia was presented a certificate of distinction for her artwork ‘Toil and Trouble’ at the opening of the Let’s Hang It exhibition, held at the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) on Friday, July 27.
The year eight student was among a group of 66 finalists chosen from a total of 530 entries in the 2018 University of New England School Acquisitive Art Prize, which is held annually with the purpose of encouraging talented young artist in regional NSW.
Olivia’s artwork was one of about 15 selected as a finalist in the junior division (years seven to nine).
Olivia attended the exhibition opening with her family and said while she didn’t expect to receive a distinction, it was nice to see all the other artworks chosen as finalists.
“They were really amazing,” she said.
This is the second time Olivia has been a finalist in the art competition, having had one of her artworks chosen two years ago.
She loves art – “it’s fun to express yourself” – and plans to enter the competition again next year.
The Let’s Hang It exhibition is on display at NERAM until Sunday, August 12.
