“Instead of walking to Ashley as participants did last year, we will be hosting an Amazing Race in Moree,” Ms Briggs said.
The Amazing Race will kick off on Saturday August 11 to support Homeless Prevention Week. Thousands of Australians will join in the good cause between August 6 to 12 and get behind this year’s theme, “End homelessness together.”
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Teams of up to four will begin at Apex Park at 9.30am and follow a trail of clues to various destinations around town.
“At each of the destinations the teams will have to go through some kind of puzzle to move onto the next location,” Ms Briggs said.
The day will end at Apex Park, with plenty of family fun activities on offer.
“Last year, we had a crafts corner, jumping castle and ten-pin bowling,” Ms Briggs said.
A free barbecue will also be included.
Costs weigh up to $30 per person. Registrations close August 8.
The Amazing Race in Moree will mark the second phase of Byamee’s Hike for Homeless campaign.
The first leg included a Trivia Night on July 27, which saw more than 110 people attend.
The playful dress theme saw plenty of odd and wonderful costumes.
“There was a shipload of pirates, clowns, Man from Snowy River, Frosty the Ford Driver, a person dressed in army camouflage, a knight, Spiderman, a tiger, Hermione, Betty Boop and the winner of the costume, Mini Mouse,” Ms Briggs said.
Ms Briggs said the night managed to pull in $3,000: the sum will go towards a good cause.
“The money will be saved up to obtain a men’s refuge in Moree,” Ms Briggs said.
“The majority of people we see are single men. There is a women’s refuge, but no men’s refuge.”
Ms Briggs thanked the donors for donating goods to the raffle: Harvey Norman Furniture (BBQ for major raffle), Harvey Norman Computers, Amaroo Tavern, Gwydir Spray Shop, Any Occasion Catering, Stephen Sparkes Jewellers, Dipper Home Hardware, South Moree Butchers, Thomas-lee Motorcycles, Dragon Phoenix Motel, Golden Harvest Motel, Mitre 10 Hardware, Discount Chemist, Woolworths Moree, Logan’s Furniture, CQR, Sullivan’s Newsagents, Assef’s, Omega Cafe, Unique Hair, Tittle Tat, Wise Word Bookshop, Bella Sante, Relaxing Cafe, Cloud Nine, Coles Moree, 61 Balo Cafe, My Time, Susan’s VIP, Supercheap Auto, Toy World, A Star Sticker Shop, PR Interiors, Soma Botanica, Impressions Hair, Repco, John Deer, Lee Volk Jewellers, Beauty Matters, Amaroo Chemist, Moree Car Spa, Tyre power, Balo Newsagents, Scott Murray Security, I Love Scarves, Rob Laser Engravings, Giselle Cartwright, Sandra Roberts, Bakers Loaf, Byamee and Post Office Motel.
