Police said a 50-year-old resident inside wasn’t injured, despite being confronted by two men inside the hotel in Stephen Street.
The men broke in to the hotel about 2.30am on Sunday, before a wrestle ensued.
“There was a short altercation between the owner and those offenders, one of which armed himself with a pool cue,” Detective Inspector Ann Joy said.
“Both left the premises without obtaining any proceeds.
“The owner wasn’t injured during the incident.”
On Monday, police spent a second day searching the town for witnesses.
“Police have attended and established a crime scene and completed examinations overnight and are presently conducting canvasses in that area in the township of Warialda,” Detective Inspector Joy said.
