True to traditional form, BATS is set to have audiences in stitches when they present Just Cruisin’, written and directed by Donna Woods. Woods has been involved in the Boomi community for more than 25 years.
Originally written in 1997, Woods has re-jigged the script for modern times, including adding characters such as Donald Hump and Kim Jon Quill.
Set on a budget cruise – the SS Beaver – led by Captain Jack Stubbies who is on medication to control his alter-ego Captain Jack Sparrow, and featuring a mixed collection of Boomi passengers, Just Cruisin’ promises to provide a night of good old-fashioned belly laughing.

And although the island-hopping sea cruise may not go as planned, Just Cruisin’ producer Melissa Carrigan said it will certainly go off with a bang.
“People will probably get lost in the plot, but that’s okay, that is just the way we like it!” she laughed.
“It’s very tongue-in-cheek, there’s a lot of innuendos. There’ll be plenty of laughs.”
Just Cruisin’ features a cast and crew of about 20 people hailing from Boomi, Goondiwindi, Moree, Garah and Talwood.
Four new faces will join the BATS regulars, and with the backdrops and creativity of Annette Coward and crew, Just Cruisin’ will be a show not-to-be-missed.
Show season will run on Friday and Saturday nights for the last three weekends of August (including the first day of September) – August 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 and September 1.
This year BATS have dedicated their show to Dot Marquart, a wonderful member of the BATs family cast and a legendary supporter of the whole Boomi community, who sadly passed away this year.
Tickets for the theatre restaurant-style show are $75 per person which includes a sit-down meal catered by Boomi’s Sandy Henderson.
All funds raised from the performances will go back into the Boomi and surrounding communities.
Tickets went on sale on July 16 and already four shows are sold out. With limited tickets available for the remaining shows, Carrigan encourages people to get in quick to avoid missing out.
“It’s a night of good, old-fashioned theatre and belly laughing,” she said.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.stickytickets.com.au/65649. For more information, go to the Boomi Amateur Thespian Society Facebook page.
