The local group opened the doors to the museum on the corner of Heber and Balo streets on Tuesday.
“It was an honour to be president of the Moree and District Historical Society at the same time of this great celebration,” said Stephen Ritchie.
The historical society members have been busy setting up the museum for the past few weeks, and have dedicated weekends and many late nights to the occasion.

Boars jerseys hang in the window display, and team photos from as far back as the 1920s archive the rich and detailed history of the club.
“We invite anyone who has played with the Boars in the last 50 years to come down to the pop-up museum. Chances are they’ll find their names in the record,” Moree and District Historical Society’s Jeni Bruno said.
Former Boars player and club legend Alf Scott praised the setup. He seized on the opportunity to reflect on his life with the club.
“The Boars have always shown great camaraderie. I have made so many friends over the years, not just in the Boars team but across the region.”
Alf has been part of the Boars for most of his life. In the span of more than 70 years, he has not only played for the club, but archived game scores and player statistics. To celebrate his invaluable contributions to the sport, he was awarded the Moree Rugby League Life Membership in 1973. The Boars also named a medal after him; the Alf Scott Medal recognises the hard work of the club’s unsung heroes.
While the pop-up museum was opened with the Boars’ anniversary in mind, the Moree and District Historical Society seized the opportunity to celebrate Moree’s sporting history.
Suns AFL jerseys lay neatly on display beside the rugby union corner. Historical Society member Lauren Winkley said despite her husband’s love of sport, the pair were still able to celebrate things like league and AFL.
“This is about celebrating the sporting passion in Moree.”
The society thanked Moree Plains Shire Council for providing the empty store space.
The museum will be open for a fortnight. The display will be extended in the case of popular community feedback.
