Track Flash took home the Moree Picnic Cup with more than a length difference between second-place Mysticism.
The Moree syndicate-owned horse continued its winning trend at Mallawa, after it took first place with a three-length lead against Geoff O’Brien’s-trained Rena’s Lad.
“That’s a comfortable win,” Mallawa Race Committee president Bernie Boland said.
Mr Boland pointed out the win was felt a lot closer to home.
“Jeff Hunt is part owner of Track Flash. He is also the longest serving member on the Mallawa Race committee. It’s very exciting to have a local connection to the cup.”
Sinclair continued to take ownership of the day, after two more of his trained-horses placed in the top echelon in other races.
His Marine Corps came second at the Picnic Class Two Trophy, with less than a length difference between first-place Cool Stinger.
California Rider placed third in the Picnic Class Three Trophy, with more than a five length difference between first-place Northern Myth.
Racing aside, Mr Boland tagged the race day as a success, saying the Mallawa Picnic Race drew close to the projected crowd of 2,000 people.
“There were around 1,900 people. Even though it was cloudy on the day, it made for a mild night. We had a crowd until the end of the night at 10pm.”
The new clubhouse and bar were opened to race-goers for the first time, after three years of construction.
“Many of the younger people under the age of 18 left after the races, because there weren’t really any facilities for them. Those who did stay behind were very well behaved. We had no problems,” Mr Boland said.
Talmoi Picnics will host the final leg of the Golden Triangle at Garah on June 23.
