The recycling library drop-off initiative complements the existing Community Recycling Centre at the Moree Waste Management Facility, which opened in August last year.

Acting waste manager Tahra Sayers said establishing the Community Recycling Centre has significantly helped the community keep problem waste out of the landfill; reducing illegal dumping and increasing recycling.

“The Community Recycling Centre at the Moree Waste Management Facility has really made an impact on amount of recycling our community does,” she said.

“Now having the Moree Community Library as an additional collection point for recyclables will make it even easier for residents.”

Moree Community Library coordinator Samantha Geatches said community waste is everyone’s problem.

“At the Library we want to encourage the community to recycle problem wastes to help prevent contaminants from such material entering the environment,” she said.

“Libraries have always had a key role to play in environmental sustainability through their borrow, read and return practices with books. This is just an extension of the Library’s capacity be environmentally friendly, and a great collaborative project between council departments.

“The Moree Community Library is centrally-located with easy parking and accessibility, so people can bring in small household batteries, mobile phones, e-Waste and printer cartridges for us to help in the recycling loop.”

The Moree Plains Community Recycling Centre (CRC) at the Waste Management Facility, 57 Evergreen Road (off Tapscott Road) is available for householders to drop off problem waste. It is open seven days, from 7.15am to 4.15pm and accepts household recyclable waste including:
