Either people in our area are die-hard royalists or they like a good party. Or so it seemed on the weekend and the week leading up to the royal wedding. There was plenty of fanfare as small towns in the region showed that they know how to have a good time.

Champion high tea
Swept away by the mood, our staff members at the Moree Champion celebrated the royal wedding with a high tea.
Royal reception
Around forty people showed up to the royal wedding reception at the Aussie Hotel in Inverell on Saturday night to watch the wedding on TV. They enjoyed the beef wellington and royal dips fit for a king.
The event, organised by Pam and Rusty Holton invited diners to come dressed as royals or celebrities, and celebrities outnumbered the royals.
Here are some photos kindly shared to us by Kim Hawken.

The date of the royal wedding on May 19 is a lucky one for Michael and Nanette Brown. Father Michael Mullane performed the rites on Saturday, May 19, 1973 at the Inverell Sacred Heart Church and the reception was held at the Inverell RSM Club. “We were told that it was the first wedding reception held at the club, whether that’s correct or not, who knows?” says Michael Brown.
Michael, from Bingara, and Nanette (nee Clough) from Warialda now have two married sons and five grandchildren and hope that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enjoy the same joy that they have had in their own married life. And yes, they spent their 55th anniversary switching over from the Swans vs Fremantle AFL game to watch the royals exchange vows.
Royal library display
People in Moree enjoyed having their photo taken at the Library’s Royal Wedding Display in celebration of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
Pooches and tiaras
Pat Larkins and her dog Tammy were still dressed for the royal wedding the morning after. It was all glamour and glitz for this couple at the Million Paws Walk in Inverell.
Cake for commoners
Watson’s Kitchen in Narrabri made a special cake for the occasion.
