The generous spirit of Anthony Diprose lives on after Moree Veterans Golf Group donated $8,000 to local organisations on behalf of the much-loved and sorely missed local man.

“Dipper was kind and generous and the club appreciates everything he did for us and the Golf Club,” Moree Veterans Golf Group president Guy Roberts said.

The substantial donation comes on the back of a successful charity day held in honour of Dipper in March.

Dipper might be known to some through his Home Timber and Hardware store, but to everyone at Moree he is remembered for his volunteer work with charity.

“Even though Dipper wasn’t part of the Moree Veterans Golf Group, he played a big role at the Golf Club,” Mr Roberts said.

Charity day organiser John Gourlay added, “He is responsible for helping with the cost of the footpath at the course. The club has even painted Dipper’s Home Timber and Hardware on the footpath, an indication of how much he is appreciate here.”

The $8,000 that was raised was divided straight down to the middle and donated to Fairview and Gwydir Industries, two organisations that Dipper was heavily involved in.

”Dipper was always a great support and helped out with our fundraisers, raffle prizes and auctions. He loved the Fairview on Trawalla, a luncheon that is held every two years.”

Gwydir Industries president Peter Weal picked up the thread.

“Dipper was an important board member at Gwydir Industries and he was always helping at fundraisers. I thank the Moree Veterans Golf Group for the donation.”

Dipper’s wife Rebecca attended the handover of the cheques and said Dipper would have been proud of the moment.

“He would be quite humbled to think a charity day was held in his name and honour at the Golf course. To say he liked golf is an understatement,” she said.
