The year 12 student achieved his pilot certificate on Sunday, May 6, after 18 months of training.
Patrick, who turns 18 in August, commenced his pilot training on November 16, 2016 in the Moree Aero Club’s Jabiru J170C aircraft as a 16-year-old student.
In June 2017 he won a scholarship from Recreational Aviation Australia valued at $1500..
“He successfully completed a demanding flight test in fine weather conditions last Sunday,” Chief Flying instructor Fred Nolan said.
“Patrick is a Moree Secondary College captain for 2018 and a highly accomplished sports person as well as a keen aviator. He is focused on using his pilot’s licence to pursue a career in aviation.
“His next objective is to complete a navigation endorsement, enabling him to fly anywhere in Australia.”
Patrick is the eldest son of well known local identities Mike and Janelle Montgomery, ‘Urella’, Moree.
