Around 40 seniors and people living with a disability shot up the place in true cowboy and cowgirl fashion as they played a game of high-stakes bingo, listened to country music and ate Wild West-inspired food.
“There are baked beans, sausages and mashed potatoes for lunch. The usual thing you would expect cowboys to eat,” Moree Care’s office manager Belinda Pring said.
The local facility regularly hosts themed functions throughout the year to encourage socialising in the senior community.

“A lot of seniors live on their own and that can lead to difficulties in staying connected with the outside world. The weather also comes into play whether or not they will go out. Generally speaking, seniors are less likely to go out when it is cold, because they would prefer to stay warm inside their home,” Belinda said.
The office manager said that thankfully services such as Moree Care’s courtesy bus allowed seniors to travel to social functions.
“The decorations are country and western inspired as well. This actually does a lot to help create topics of conversation for seniors and the conversations keep their mind active: I had one lady start talking to me about growing up with horses,” Belinda said.
A raffle, lucky door prize and a Mother’s Day hamper were up for grabs with prizes such as a coffee blender thrown in the bag of goodies.
