“This will be the second time the Boars have held the Shield Day. It would be great if the Boars could win the game for a local legend,” Moree Boars Club secretary Ashlee Johnston said.
The Boars will face off all four grades of the Inverell Hawks on Saturday, with ladies league-tag kicking off the tribute round at 2pm.
Old boys, committee members, coaches, family, friends and visitors are invited to attend the day to honour Briggs.
The local-legend played 142 first grade games, 10 for reserve and 37 junior games. Add 93 tries to his name and 183 kicked-goals and there’s no doubt why Briggs is remembered as one of the Boars’ greats.
Briggs represented Group Five, Group Four, Northern Division and played against the touring Great Britain side. He won many best and fairest awards and premierships in both groups Four and Five.
The gates to the ground will open at 1pm and come with a $6 entry fee. A full bar and canteen will be available to game-goers.
Wife Sally and Brigg’s children will also be present on the day, to help hand out the trophies.
