On Wednesday night, local general practice training provider GP Synergy, brought together more than 50 local health professionals and special guests including Moree Plains Mayor Councillor Katrina Humphries, for a networking event to help new GP registrars settle into town.
This year has seen an increase in doctors moving to Moree to train to become GPs, with five new registrars joining the two already training in Moree. Most of the registrars also work at Moree Hospital.
Dr Vanessa Moran, GP Synergy’s Director of Education and Training ACT & NSW welcomed guests, and the registrars who are training under the supervision of local GPs. “We’re committed to supporting registrars and their supervisors to ensure GPs starting their careers receive the best medical training.

“GP Synergy also provides assistance to registrars moving to rural locations to settle in,” Dr Moran said. Councillor Humphries said supporting these initiatives was part of ensuring health professionals that train in Moree feel welcomed into the local community.
“The new doctors have been able to meet locals working across the health spectrum, in local schools and childcare, as well as volunteers from our service clubs.
“I hope the new doctors feel that Moree is a great place to work and eventually make their home,” Councillor Humphries said.
There are currently 73 GP registrars training in more than 50 accredited general practices in New England/Northwest NSW.
