Up until then, there had been possible sightings reported in Moree, Tamworth, Gunnedah, parts of South East Queensland, and the North Coast of NSW between Newcastle and the Queensland border.
Moree officer-in-charge, Inspector Martin Burke said police are still following up on any leads they receive from the community both in Moree and beyond.
“There’s not a great deal more we can do,” he said.
“We’re working with the missing persons unit which is vigilant around any transactions that may occur, medically or financially.
“We’re still following up on leads from the community but unfortunately, at this stage it looks like there hasn’t been anything for some time.”
Mr Torrens, who answers to ‘John’ or ‘Torro’, went missing from Moree’s Fairview Retirement Village at about 9.20am on Friday, January 5.
Police have since conducted extensive land, air and water searches in and around Moree and have been liaising with police across NSW and Queensland.
Inspector Burke said police haven’t given up.
“We’re still speaking with Fairview and we’ll get to a stage where we’ll do a review of the investigation and sightings and will work with the family,” he said.
“We’re not ruling anything out.”
