I have just returned from the Sydney Royal Easter Show after competing as a state finalist in the highly prestigious The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition.
Yes, it is a competition at the end of the day but more so it’s a six-day intensive program aimed at empowering young rural women and equiping them with the skills, technical knowledge and leadership capacity to thrive and excel in their local communities.

As a showgirl you are an ambassador for rural and regional NSW and it gives you a platform to educate and showcase the role young rural women play professionally and within their community.
We participated in professional development, which included great emphasis on public speaking and networking.
We visited Government House and Parliament House. It was a privilege to meet His Excellency, the Honourable David Hurley and his wife Mrs Hurley, and the Honourable Niall Blair, NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Trade and Industry and Regional Water.
The highlight for me was the interconnections session and mentoring sessions where we heard from and met some incredibly successful and inspiring women.
We were then matched up with our mentor that we will work with in a personal and professional sense for the next 12 months.
I was lucky enough to be matched with Airlie Tres Cowthick of the Farm Table. She is currently rolling out her incredible farmer exchange program nationally and will be in Goondiwindi on April 10. The farmer exchange is an online agricultural community for farmer peer to peer learning.
I very much look forward to working with Airlie.
Ultimately the experience would not have been what it was without the 13 other incredible young women I shared it with. Each of which were passionate and inspiring individuals doing incredible things in their respective industries and communities.
At the end of the day we all walk away winners, with greatly expanded networks and some phenomenal new friends.
A massive thank you to the Moree Show Society and the sponsors and supporters of the showgirl competition. Thank you to my work colleagues and clients for all your work to get me there during such a busy time. And thank you to my friends and family, your support and encouragement has meant the world.
I can’t wait to see where this takes me.
I cannot recommend this program enough. I have significantly improved my public speaking and networking skills and gained skills and confidence to do so effectively.
I have met some incredible people, made many friends and have an added skillset to bring back to my professional life and personally through various committee roles.
The Moree Show is only a few weeks away and there is still time to enter the showgirl competition.
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Entries for the 2018 Moree Showgirl competition close on Friday, April 13. To be eligible, entrants must be female aged 18 years to under 25 years as of May 1, 2019 and reside, be educated or work within the Moree district for at least three months prior to the competition, to qualify to complete at state level.
