“The donation is something we can do a lot with,” said club treasurer John Latimer.
The men’s shed is a vital asset to Moree with its members donating their time and services to bettering the community.
“We do a lot of work with local groups and charities, especially Cancer Council Australia,” said Mr Latimer.
The club treasurer said the donation would allow the Men’s Shed to expand their services.
“We would like to do more than woodwork. We hope to one day provide metal work, leather making and other services.”
The money would also be a big help to give a face lift to the shed, according to Mr Latimer. The current shed is a converted chook pavilion that has survived two floods. Mr Latimer said improving the amenities would have an added bonus.
”We would hopefully see more members join our organisation.”
The donation from the CBA coincides with the bank’s 100 year anniversary, celebrating a century of giving to Australian businesses and organisations.
The money was generously donated from the staff members themselves and taken out of their staff fund.
“Each fortnight, staff members donate a small portion of their pay cheque,” said Moree branch manager Marla Hosegood.
It is the first time that Marla has been able to choose which local organisation received funding. She said the decision easily came to her.
“The Men’s Shed does so much for the community, that it was not at all a difficult decision.”
She said other members in the community shared her respect for the men.
“Each year the organisation sells raffle tickets outside the doors to the bank. Customers are always praising these men to our staff.”
