Moree community groups are encouraged to take advantage of round two of the Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF) which opens this week.

The SCCF has been established to deliver crucial local infrastructure to improve the quality of life of people living in regional NSW.
The amount of funding available across the state has doubled for round two, with $200 million available to be shared amongst the 92 regional and rural local government areas across NSW.
The SCCF is targeting small to medium local projects such as parks, community halls, playgrounds and amenity blocks.
Applications for the SCCF can only be made by councils, however, community groups are able to submit a suggested project to Council for their consideration.
Projects must be for:
- New or refurbishment/upgrade of existing community infrastructure such as community halls, playgrounds or toilet blocks.
- Construction of new or refurbishment/upgrade of existing local sporting infrastructure such as change room facilities, walking and cycle pathways, public pool upgrades, indoor sports facilities or oval/court lighting.
- Capital works related to street beautification and public ‘place making’ such as murals, planter boxes or town and tourism signage.
- Projects must be able to demonstrate strong community backing. Projects that leverage partnerships or numerous user groups will be viewed favourably.
- No financial co-contribution required except when seeking funding of more than $1 million for a single project, in which case applicants must include a minimum financial co-contribution of at least 25 per cent.
- A standard template will be required to be completed by interested community groups for their project(s). This will be available on Council’s website early next week.
All projects nominated by community groups within the Moree Plains Shire must meet the program objectives and eligibility guidelines, which are available at https://www.nsw.gov.au/improving-nsw/regional-nsw/regional-growth-fund/stronger-country-communities/.
Community projects need to be submitted to Council for consideration by 5pm, Wednesday, March 28.
Council will consider all eligible project nominations in early April.
Mayor Katrina Humphries is thrilled to see a double allocation of this funding.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Council, community and sporting groups alike,” she said.
“I encourage locals and community groups to put forward ideas for projects you’d like to see in the Moree Plains.
“I acknowledge there will be some homework for us all to give our projects the best chance of being put forward for the program, but I welcome the template that is going to be provided – we’ll all be in the same boat in pulling together the information needed to support these project applications.”
