“We have teamed up with Woolworths and will now deliver any groceries ordered online at the request of the customer,” said Moree Aged and Disability Services executive officer Michelle Harrison.
Customers who order their food through Woolworth’s ‘Click and Collect’ online page, will now have the option of having their food delivered to their homes. While Woolworths provides their own delivery trucks in other areas, Moree has no such service.
Ms Harrison said the idea to combine forces first struck her when she received a call from a woman in Sydney.
“She was the daughter of one of our clients. She said her mum had ordered some groceries from Woolworths, but that she was unable to pick up the items. They asked if we could pick them up for her. Naturally, we said yes!”
The local service will make use of the resources they already have, to deliver customer’s orders.
“We always have staff on the streets, driving in company cars. It only makes sense that we extend our services to the wider community.”
The Moree Community Transport service will not only be available to the elderly, or those living with a disability, but everybody else.
“Under the Transport for NSW regulations, our service can be used for anyone who may be disadvantaged for whatever reason.”
That ranges from anyone who has inadequate transport, to busy work people who are time poor.
“These days, both parents are expected to work from 9am to 5pm. On top of that, they have to do the shopping, cleaning, and raise a family. This service is really about saving them time.”
She also said customers could arrange a time with staff, when they wanted their food delivered to them.
“We have kitchens and all the right facilities at our building, so we can hold onto the food when you’re ready for the delivery.”
Delivery will cost $15, and is available to anyone living in the Moree township. Ms Harrison said she was hoping to extend the service to surrounding areas, even as far flung as Mungindi, but that costs would have to be recalculated based on distance.
“The money will cover all expenses, including staff wages and petrol.”
Delivery is currently available from Monday to Friday, between 9am to 4.30pm. Weekends and public holidays are exempt.
“We want to keep delivery hours in line with staff work hours.”
Moree Woolworths manager Andrew Finch said the service was a “win, win, win” for Moree.
“Woolworths will be able to get more involved in the community, help the not-for-profit Moree Aged and Disability Services, and increase staff hours, which means good business for the town.”
