Della Barnes and Mark Cotter have been meeting up for rehearsals twice a week since the start of the school term and while they have been “a little sketchy”, they do know all their moves ahead of Saturday’s event.
“It’s just a matter of finesse and fine-tuning,” Della said.
Della, who works part time for the family agribusiness company and is a stay-at-home mum the rest of the time, and Mark, a local farmer, were paired together as neither of their partners felt confident enough to perform.
“My husband has two left feet,” Della joked.
Coincidentally, two years ago, neither Della nor Mark were able to attend the Dancing with the Stars event as both were competing in a triathlon at Mooloolaba.
“This time two years ago wee were training for that which we thought was quite arduous and painful,” Della said.
“Two years down the track and we’re learning to dance. We both reckon it’s much more difficult.”
Despite instilling the helping of local ballet teacher Mary Davison, Della and Mark believe they’ll be the comic relief couple for the night.
“Mark and I are pretty casual; we know we’re not going to be the best couple,” Della said.
Della didn’t give too much away about the style of dance they’ve chosen, only hinting that the pair “don’t hold hands”.
“And there’s definitely no lifts,” she said.
