The event is aimed at commemorating Allied forces and their families who have served in conflicts across the globe post-Vietnam.
It has been organised by members of the National Servicemen’s Association NSW north west branch and the Moree RSL sub-branch.
It will be the second reunion for Moree and the 25th for the NSW north west branch.
“This reunion is a continuation of a successful event held at Bingarra in previous years and is particularly aimed at families,” one of the organisers, John Tramby, said.
Mr Tramby received an OAM in 2016 for services to local government and the community of Moree.
He served Australia in the Vietnam War and has been a member of the RSL Bellata sub-branch for 40 years and the Moree sub-branch.
The reunion starts on Friday, March 9 with a “meet and greet”.
Then on Saturday at 11.15am ex-service personnel and their families will march down the main street of Moree. Marchers will form up in Albert Street.
Leading that march will be Patricia Amphlett, better known as the 1960s pop idol “Little Pattie”.
She had been entertaining troops on August 18, 1966 when she was unexpectedly whisked off stage and evacuated from the area by helicopter when the Battle of Long Tan escalated.
After leading the march on Saturday, “Little Pattie” will later entertain marchers and guests at a special evening concert.
There will also be speeches and a dance band.
The reunion continues on Sunday with a brunch and church service.
Members of the reunion will meet at the military museum in Balo Street, Moree, to view its progress.
“It records and preserves our military history,” Mr Tramby said.
The NSW National Servicemen’s Association, represents “nashos” from 1951-1972 and were members of the Australian regular forces and or the Allied forces.
Mr Tramby hopes the reunions will become an annual event in Moree. More information, phone 0428 659 048.
