CALLING ALL DOGS: Country music superstar Melinda Schneider is on the search for a local dog to star alongside her during her 'Melinda Does Doris' show in Narrabri next month.

Moree dogs could have the opportunity to star alongside six-time CMAA Golden Guitar winner Melinda Schneider when she returns to Narrabri’s Crossing Theatre next month.

Schneider will be bringing her new show, Melinda Does Doris … Again: A Tribute to Doris Day, to the Crossing Theatre, Narrabri on Sunday, March 4 and is on the hunt for a local four-legged pooch to sing to.

The country music superstar is inviting dogs of all breeds to ‘pawdition’ for a starring role in the show.

The lucky dog chosen must be obedient, professional, take direction well and be able to smile at the audience.

No previous stage experience is necessary, but ability to walk on stage, jump on a chair and be sung to for one song, is essential.

Schneider herself will be choosing the lucky dog who will accompany her on stage for one song in the second set of the show.

The winner will receive two complimentary tickets to the show and a packet of schmackos.

Schneider’s own beloved dogs used to tour the Doris show with her, but since their passing, the singer-songwriter has used it as an opportunity to bring a local flavour to the show.

Melinda Schneider shares a love of dogs with her musical idol Doris Day.

Melinda Schneider shares a love of dogs with her musical idol Doris Day.

“Dogs were a big part of Doris Days’ life and she had a huge love for dogs as does Melinda,” Schneider’s publicist Marc Mancini said.

During the Melinda Does Doris show, Schneider takes a step back in time to pay homage to one of her musical heroes, Doris Day, following on from the hugely successful capital city seasons of Schneider’s theatre stage show DORIS.

Schneider’s love affair with Doris began when, in childhood, she laid eyes on Calamity Jane, Doris Day’s 1953 film tour de force, and was smitten by all she saw.

“She was such a huge talent,” Schneider said.

“A triple threat as they say – she could sing, dance and act.

“I thought then she was the best of everything a woman can be and when I grew up I wanted to be just like her.”

The nostaglic celebration includes such timeless hits as ‘Sentimental Journey, ‘Que Sera, Sera’, ‘Everybody Loves a Lover’, ‘Secret Love’, and a while slew of hits from Calamity JaneLove Me or Leave Me and The Pajama Game.

“I am really excited to be able to bring this wonderful music to smaller centres” Schneider said.

“I am constantly being asked ‘when are you bringing the Doris music here Melinda?’, and by putting together this concert version of the show, it all becomes possible.”

Schneider will be performing at the Crossing Theatre, Narrabri on Sunday, March 4 at 2pm.

If you believe your pooch has what it takes to steal the show, send a picture of your dog and outline in 25 words or less why your four-legged friend is perfect for the part to management@melindaschneider.com by Wednesday, February 21.
