Since early December, police and fire crews have been called to more than 200 blazes – all believed to be suspicious.
On Monday morning, police from the Target Action Group (TAG), detectives, uniformed officers and the arson squad, as well as the dog unit, doorknocked about 200 homes.
Barwon Inspector Martin Burke said officers were in Sullivan Place, Tycannah, Oak, Tawarrie and Morton streets, as well as Jones and Barwon avenues.
“Police concentrated on areas where there has been fires as well as locations of persons of interest,” he told The Leader.
“We have had a good response from the community and we are sifting through that information that is coming in with the view that it will hopefully help us to solve some of the unsolved fire incidents.
“But we would reiterate to the community to share information with police, and if they wish they can remain anonymous.”
