Moree New Caledonian Society Pipes and Drums Band, Moree Town and District Band and Moree Community Choir entertained the crowd with Australian songs as they enjoyed their delicious bacon, egg and sausage sandwiches cooked by Moree Lions Club.
Everyone was then seated while the official ceremony took place, where five people took the pledge to become Australian citizens.
Following the singing of the Australian National Anthem, it was time to find out the winners of the 2018 Australia Day awards.
Moree's 2018 Australia Day ambassador Penny Cook presented the awards before speaking about what the day means.
"I love being an Australia Day ambassador," she said.
"I was one of the original eight; there are now some 350, I think, that travel around the countryside and we get to meet the most extraordinary people - the volunteers, the amazing young sportswomen ... the young volunteers.
"I get very excited when people take citizenship because it means you've decided, despite all our faults, that you want to be one of us, and, rest assured, we all have faults but if we work together we can get rid of those. It's with great joy that I look around and see people wanting to be part of the wider community in each place that we go.
"I thank you all for all that you do, thank you for the blessedly cool day and thank you everybody.
"Have a great Australia Day. Go out and enjoy it."
