A Return and Earn reverse vending machine was installed in the car park of Woolworths Moree in December last year and has become a popular pastime for many locals.
The machine exchanges containers for cents and if enough is collected and put through, possibly hundreds.
As a charity-run organisation, Moree PCYC relies heavily on donations to be able to purchase new equipment and hire staff to run programs and activities.
Senior activities officer Tayla Macey said donations of drink containers to the PCYC was an easy way for the community to help support the local club.
“All people have to do is bring us their slips from the machine, or their containers so we can go down and put the containers through the machine,” she said.
With mats almost 20 years old, the Moree PCYC have slowly been upgrading their equipment as funding allows it. However the more donations from the community, the quicker they’ll be able to upgrade.
“Any funding or donations we receive stay locally, then our committee decide where the money will be spent be it specific new equipment or a staff member to run a certain activity,” she said.
Already, a few people have dropped off their plastic drink containers, cans and a few cartons.
