The Drama Kings and Queens holiday drama course has been running at Moree Plains Gallery from Monday, January 8 until Friday, January 12.
School-aged children from as young as six to 12 years have had a great time throughout the week-long course during which time they’ve participated in a variety of fun activities, tasks and games including drama games, script writing, script reading, directing and more.
Drama Kings and Queens is run by experienced drama and English teacher Harriett Roberts who is currently teaching at Moree East Public School.
Harriett is a former National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) student and has a bachelor of performing arts.
This is the second time she’s run holiday drama classes in Moree – the first ones were about four years ago – and this time she has had double the numbers.
She’s hoping to make it a more regular school holiday program.
“I’d like to try to do it most school holidays, but at least the January holidays,” she said.
Having grown up in Moree, Harriett wants to give local children the opportunity to develop their drama skills.
“I wanted something like this when I was younger and it wasn’t available,” she said.
Harriett said the drama classes are aimed at helping children develop confidence, articulation, presentation, improvisation and social skills within a group environment.
“Theatre sport encourages teamwork and gives students an opportunity for self-relaince and expression, all whilst having fun,” she said.
“A lot of kids are here because their parents want them to gain more confidence – a lot of it is about social settings and many of them come without knowing anyone.”
