Organisers and regular participants nominated the local Moree parkrun to host a special Monday event on December 25 as a chance to get together and celebrate the holiday season.
Participants are encouraged to gather on the banks of the river, across from the Rocket park, at 6:50 for a briefing before the 7am start to the 5km timed event, which will be followed up by a breakfast barbecue on Christmas morning.
Moree will be joining 71 other special Christmas parkrun events held across Australia. They are hoping to attract some “parkrun tourists” from other courses who may be in town visiting family over the holidays, and maybe some first-timers too.
Organisers realise that Christmas Day means different things to different people, and hope it gives members of the community something a little extra to get excited about on Christmas morning.
Everyone is welcome no matter whether you walk, jog or volunteer at the start/finish line because park-runners are recognised for their participation and personal achievements.
Moree parkrun is held every Saturday for the community, by the community.
Along with the Christmas day event, Moree parkrun will be held as usual, from 7am all Saturdays across the holiday period.
