Newman gave up only ten runs from his eight overs to register figures of six for eight including four maidens and claim the man of the match award.
Victoria Hotel Vikings won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision they might have regretted after Newman proved unplayable at times, having the Vikings top order batsman back in the sheds with only a handful of runs on the board.
Newman gave up only ten runs from his eight overs to register figures of six for eight including four maidens and claim the man of the match award.
Newman hit the stumps twice and had a pair of LBWs to his credit.
None of the Vikings top six made double figures and only Ryan Kennedy’s 40 ball dig for 23 and a quickfire 19 from Steve Wallis gave them any respectability on the scoreboard.
Wallis’s 12 ball stay yielded four boundaries, but their final score of 66 from 20 overs wasn’t enough to cause Stallions any anxiety and they set about hauling in the total with a minimum of fuss.
Stallions openers reached the Vikings total of 66 within seven overs without the loss of a wicket.
Ben Day was 33 not out and Mark Stewart made 24 not out.
In the B grade grand final, Moree Golfies 5/155 defeated Moree Services Club Colts 144. Colts batted first and reached a total of 144 in 24 overs.
Best with the bat was Ryan Kemp with 60 runs.
Golfies wickets went to Matt Lather who claimed six from his eight overs. Matt O'Donnell took two wickets and Chris Rowden and Kamal Ranaweera grabbed one each.
Moree Golf Club opener Adam Ha started his team off well before falling to the bowling of Marcus Kelly on 32.
Matt O'Donnell on 33 not out and Matt Lather 44 guided the team home supported well by James Smith with 20 runs.
Wickets for the Colts went to Ryan Kemp 2/38 Marcus Kelly 2/32 and 1/18 for Joe Coleman.
Thanks to all teams for a great day of cricket and we would like to wish all our players and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
