A brand new Holden Barina Spark, covered with Dancing with the Stars promotional stickers, was delivered to Gwydir Industries last Tuesday, kick-starting the fundraising for the 2018 event.
The car, which was offered at a reduced price from Tait Holden, will be raffled off to add to the Dancing with the Stars fundraising.
The lucky winner of the car will be drawn at the Dancing with the Stars event, set for March 10, 2018.
This is the first time a car has been raffled as part of the Dancing with the Stars fundraising, which all goes to Gwydir Industries.
President of the Gwydir Industries board Peter Weal said Tait Holden made a very generous offer of the car.
“It just adds to the biennial fundraising that we do to keep Gwydir Industries alive and relevant,” he said.
“We’re hoping the community rallies behind the raffle. Whatever we can make above what the car cost will be a bonus for Gwydir Industries.”
Tait Holden’s Kendall Tait said they were more than happy to support the worthwhile cause.
“We are always happy to support Gwydir Industries,” she said.
“Anything to keep the town going and support other locals.”
Next year will be the fifth Dancing with the Stars event. Each year between $40,000 and $60,000 is raised on the night.
Some of the past fundraising has gone towards purchasing a van and a bus for the localy charity, as well as general improvements to the old building.
“Gwydir Industries does get NDIS funding but not enough to really keep the place running,” Mr Weal said.
“The funds go towards improving the lives of people with disabilities in Moree.”
Gwydir Industries manager Antoinette McNamara said with the funds raised at next year’s event they’re looking at doing renovations in the recycling area, as well as putting money towards the maintenance and upkeep costs of their engraving machine, which will be obsolete next year.
“One of our main sources of income is engraving,” she said.
“The main reason we’re here is to keep our clients in employment.”
Tickets for the car are $10 and are on sale now from Gwydir Industries.
The car will also be at various functions in the lead-up to next year’s event, including at this Saturday’s Moree Twilight Races.
