Students and their families arrived and the night kicked off with a PowerPoint presentation of photos and fun from throughout the year.
The night was hosted by 2017 school captain and vice-captain, Cody Gillogly and Charlie Kirkby, who were assisted by Thomas Roach.
The night commenced with Mrs Vivianne Fouracre giving her principal’s address, followed by the P and C report, presented by P and C president Kim Kirkby.
Mrs Kirkby, along with her husband Geoff and Tina Hugo, were presented with a gift from the school as their youngest child graduates from Bellata Public and heads off to high school. We wish them all the best for the future.
Sports captains, Angus McPherson and Thomas Roach, gave their sports report before Mrs Kirkby presented the sports awards. Ruby Stewart, Angus McPherson, Chloe Gillogly and Max Gillogly all received certificates for their representation in athletics at regional Level. Max also represented at regional level in cross country.
The 2017 Sportsperson of the Year was awarded to Ruby Stewart.
Sports captains for 2018 were announced. Chappell House captain is Allira Stolzenberg and Goolagong House captain is Ruby Stewart. Allira and Ruby’s parents were invited to the stage to congratulate their children and to pin on their badges.
Mrs Maryanne McPherson gave her creative arts report and along with Mrs Kirkby, presented the Creative Arts and Library Awards. Angus McPherson received the Creative Arts Award and Ruby Stewart was awarded the Library Award. Chloe Gillogly and Thomas Roach were presented with awards for music by Mrs McPherson for their development and achievement throughout the year.
Class awards were presented next. Mrs Kirkby, with the assistance of Mrs Heather Langfield, presented the awards to the K/1/2 students. Mrs Fouracre was assisted by Mrs Shelli Morse to present Years 3-6 with their awards.
Mrs Fouracre, with the support of Mrs Kirkby, presented this year’s special awards. The recipients are as follows:
- Mathematics Award - Charlie Kirkby
- English Award - Thomas Roach
- Senior Science Award - Thomas Roach
- Junior Science Award - Harley Budden
- History Award - Cody Gillogly
- CWA Citizenship Award - Cody Gillogly
- Edna Promnitz Public Speaking Award - Ruby Stewart
- Dux of the School – Thomas Roach
Current Year 5 students, along with Year 4 students, were invited to the stage to take the Leaders Pledge before outgoing school captain, Cody, had the pleasure of announcing the 2018 School Captain.
Angus McPherson was voted in as school captain. He will be assisted in his leadership role by 2018 Year 5 students.
Angus’ parents were invited to the stage to congratulate him and pin on his badge.
The formal proceedings concluded with the presentation of the Year 6 graduation certificates and mementos to Cody Gillogly, Charlie Kirkby and Thomas Roach. The audience was treated to a slideshow of the Year 6 students and their adventures during their time at Bellata Public School.
Following a short intermission, the students presented a short play, under the guidance of Mrs McPherson, titled ‘Big Little Shots’. This contained musical numbers including ‘House of Gold’, ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘The Cup Song’ and instrumental performances on the ukuleles and bongo drums. The performance concluded with a whole school rendition of the Cliff Richard hit ‘Summer Holiday’.
