The women once again won both their games – against Armidale Rams and Narwan Eels – on Saturday, during round two of the competition, held in Warialda.
Not only did they win both games, but the Moree team didn’t let either side put any points on the board, winning 10-nil against Armidale and 12-nil against Narwan.
It was the first time Moree has faced Armidale in the tackle tournament and coach Lorilie Haines said the Rams weren’t as tough as they were expecting.
“Our defence was really good, the girls shut them down pretty good and scored so that helped us win,” she said.
Meanwhile, Narwan were tougher this time around, however Moree’s defence again proved too good.
“Their defence is really great, they shock me that they’re going so well,” Haines said. “The other teams are all going well, the score doesn’t reflect that.”
Haines said the Moree girls are tackling well, proving to themselves that they are capable of being competitive in rugby league.
While she said all girls played well, Shamarla Duncan stepped up this week, while newcomers Rebecca Sampson and Taliah Ryan put in a top effort for their first game.
Moree will now host the third and final round of the Group 19 women’s nines competition on Saturday, December 9. A ground has yet to be confirmed but kick-off will be at 2pm.
