They may be newcomers to the competition but the Moree Boomerangs have proven to be tough competitors in the Group 19 women’s nines tournament after winning both their matches on Saturday.

The girls faced Warialda first up in round one of the three-week tournament in Armidale on Saturday, coming away with a 10-4 victory.
In their second match, the Boomerangs were too strong for Narwan, defeating them 22-4.
Coach Lorilie Haines said it was a great start to the competition.
“Overall I couldn’t fault anyone – they all got in there and had a go,” she said.
Haines said Tileah McGrady and Bianca Wells, both newcomers to the sport, were standouts on the day.
“This was their first time playing league so they did really well,” she said.
Tackling training with Boomerangs head coach proved to pay off for the Moree side, who have never had the opportunity to play league outside the annual Koori Knockout.
Haines said the girls gelled really well on Saturday, which shone through in both their matches.
She is confident the side will continue to shine throughout the competition, with a chance that Moree could host the finals in a few weeks time.
Haines was particularly encouraged to learn that the nines tournament is a pathway for selection for further representation, with a chance that the girls could be selected to represent Northern Division and potentially work their way up through the ranks to play for the Jillaroos.
“The girls now have something to play for, they’re being looked at,” she said.
“At least there’s the opportunity there.
“If they put their mind to it, they can do anything.”
Warialda will host round two of the tournament on Saturday, November 25.
