The pair will be bringing their two-hour stand up comedy show, ‘Women Like Us’, to Moree Services Club on Saturday, December 2.
Having only been to Moree once before as a support act for a ‘puppetry of the penis’ show, Mandy Nolan is looking forward to returning with Ellen Briggs and giving Moree audiences a solid two-hour stomach and jaw workout and “a bloody good time”.
“We’ll be delivering a laugh every 20 to 30 seconds – people are exhausted by the end of it,” Mandy said.
Women Like Us features two hours – an hour a piece – of untold, laugh-out-loud, real stories about Mandy and Ellen’s lives.
With seven children and thirty five years stage time between them, their ‘failure to parent’ is the focus of their material, along with the beauy industry, getting older, getting fatter, strange surgeries, weird TV shows, obsessions, frustrations, and at the end of the day, who unpacks the dishwasher.
“We’re middle aged women and this is real stories about our lives, our kids, our husbands,” Ellen said.
“We don’t pick on people or bully the audience, only our husbands, kids, parents – only people who aren’t there.
“It’s very real and raw; we’re not embarrassed by things that society says we should be embarrassed by – we’re talking about our fat guts and low libidos.
“That’s really refreshing for women to hear and blokes love it too.”
“It’s just everyday stuff,” Mandy added.
“People will go home feeling better about themselves.”
Mandy, a columnist for the Byron Shire Echo and regularly contributor for Mamamia, and Ellen, winner of Foxtel Comedy Channel’s Be A Comedian, are middle-aged mothers and country girls from Mullumbimby in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.
They’ve been touring their Women Like Us show around the country for the past two years, boasting more than 60 sold out shows.
The pair plan on going everywhere in Australia before “taking on the globe”.
“We’ll have dementia by the time we’re finished,” Mandy joked.
“That would probably be even funnier.”
Mandy and Ellen said Women Like Us is not to be missed and encourage Moree residents to book their Christmas parties and come along for a night of non-stop laughter.
“People can expect a really good night,” Mandy said.
“We’re there to entertain and give people a bloody good time. We make sure they get well and truly value for money.
“They might even lose weight … if anyone’s got a double chin, this is the show for you.
“When you laugh for two hours it is very good for your overall health.”
Be warned, the show could be a health hazard; previous audiences have complained of aching stomach muscles, sore jaws, and at one show a women actually injured herself when she laughed so much she fell out of her chair.
“People have an intense reaction,” Mandy said.
And it’s not just for women – men are also strongly encouraged to come along and gain an insight into the lives of their better halves.
“If you’re a man that really enjoys the company of good, fun, emancipated, straight-talking women, you’ll have a great time,” Mandy said.
Women Like Us will be coming to Moree Services Club on Saturday, December 2. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.
