With a keen eye for photography, Jeddy Fernando decided to enter a few of her favourite images into a MyMoree Photography Competition.
Before long, the self-taught photographer found out her images made the finals and would be exhibited at the Moree Plains Gallery.
At the opening evening of the exhibit, it was announced Jeddy’s photograph of three Indigenous girls had won the ‘People’ category.
On Monday, the MyMoree team revealed Jeddy’s second image of her nephew was voted People’s Choice.
“I entered my two favourite photos of portraits I’d taken of kids in the bush. I often showcase traditional Gomeroi culture in the photos as well,” she said.
“Basically the photos capture my version of what MyMoree represents.”
Her stunning image of her nephew Jahkye Cutmore received the most amount of votes throughout the month of the exhibit being open to the public.
The photograph was taken around two years ago and features her young nephew in the bush with traditional face paint.
Jeddy said she was excited to tell Jahkye that his photograph had won an award.
“He came with us to the exhibition opening night and saw his picture on the wall. He was very excited.” Jeddy said her favourite part of photographing people was the reaction seeing the photos after the shoot.
“I’ve got a bit of an eye for photography and love seeing how much people like their photos.”
Jeddy was awarded a voucher to spend on her choice photography equipment at Harvey Norman Moree. “We hope this will be a great boost to her budding photography career and look forward to her sharing more of her Moree with us,” Susannah Pearse said.
